Transfer Story: Albina Zhaku
Transfer Story Q&A:
1) How would you describe your first academic year at NJIT?
- The first academic year at NJIT has been challenging because of the pandemic but I have been able to adjust to the current conditions.
2) What challenges if any, did you face as a transfer student and how did NJIT help you to overcome those challenges?
- The main challenge I faced was meeting new people and adjusting to the workload of the Architecture school. The pandemic made it almost impossible to meet new people, but I thought that the converged method did help especially so that I could have a feel for what studio life would be like. As for the workload that was something that I had to personally get used to and eventually I did.
3) Please describe your experience with NJIT classes and/or tutoring in an online, hybrid, or converged learning format?
- I think that the choice of being online or in-person was a very good idea for dealing with the pandemic. As a commuter student having the choice helped with time management.
4) What are your plans after graduation?
- My plan after graduation is to finish my interning hours and then complete my ARE exams so that I can become licensed as an Architect in New Jersey and begin my professional career.
5) What advice would you give to a prospective transfer student?
- I would advise them to be prepared for the academic workload because NJIT is a very competitive and great school that sets high expectations for students.
6) What is a major difference between NJIT and the previous school you transferred from?
- My previous school was much smaller and did not have specific to architecture courses and it was challenging when transferring credits. In contrast, NJIT has all these architecture courses and electives to choose from that will benefit me in my future career.
7) What are the three things you like best about NJIT?
- The city scape of the campus is one of my favorite things about NJIT, the fact that many things are accessible by foot and I can walk to downtown when I need to and the many facilities within the school that I am able to utilize such as study spaces and lounges.
