Transfer Story: Dillon R. Imes
Transfer Story Q&A:
1) How would you describe your first academic year at NJIT?
-
My first academic year at NJIT was very interesting. At first, I was nervous living at a new college, but you meet people instantly. If you are an architecture student, you basically live in your studio with the amount of work that is given, so you will meet many people inside of the studio who you will see every day.
2) What challenges if any, did you face as a transfer student and how did NJIT help you to overcome those challenges?
-
The biggest challenge I faced as a transfer student was getting comfortable at a new campus. The staff and the students at NJIT are very nice and are great to go to if you have any questions about anything.
3) Please describe your experience with NJIT classes and/or tutoring in an online, hybrid or converged learning format?
-
I did not mind the online learning formats. It was a shame we could not be in person with everyone learning hands-on, but the professors were still able to make the classes interesting online.
4) What are your plans after graduation?
-
After I graduate with my B. Arch., I then plan to get my M. Arch. My overall plan after that is to work as an architect in NYC or in Florida and then in the future, open my own firm.
5) What advice would you give to a prospective transfer student?
-
My advice for transfer students: Don’t be shy. Explore the campus and buildings to help you get comfortable with your new location. And my biggest piece of advice would be to work on time management because as an architecture student if you want some free time, the only way you will get it with little to no stress is by managing your schedule daily.
6) What is a major difference between NJIT and the previous school you transferred from?
-
The biggest difference between NJIT and my previous college would be the amount of work/projects given to the students. The college I came from was and still is a great county college, but this is a well-known, professional design college.
7) What are the three things you like best about NJIT?
-
I like the layout of the campus a lot. It is not too big, yet not too small (skateboard/ long board is great transportation throughout campus).
-
The food at the Village Market is amazing.
-
I also feel very safe when walking back to my dorm at night. There are NJIT police everywhere which helps me relieve stress while traveling through campus at night.
