Transfer Story: Melissa Mendez-Nguyen
Transfer Story Q&A:
1) How would you describe your first academic year at NJIT?
-
My first year at NJIT was full of surprises! This was my first experience at a university, and I truly enjoyed my time here. My professors were so helpful, and the people I met were awesome as well.
2) What challenges, if any, did you face as a transfer student, and how did NJIT help you to overcome those challenges?
-
The challenge I experienced as a transfer student was not being aware of the fun activities students could be involved in. I missed quite a few of them by simply not knowing where to get the information or an event calendar.
3) Please describe your experience with NJIT classes and/or tutoring in an online, hybrid, or converged learning format?
-
I had a good experience overall through all of my classes. I was able to adapt quickly even though I came from OCC. It did not feel like a shock, and everything was easy to follow. My professors were helpful and, most importantly, my friends! As they were my tutors whenever I needed one.
4) What are your plans after graduation?
-
After I graduated from NJIT, I joined the Technology Development Program at J&J! I am so thrilled that NJIT shaped me as a young professional, and now I am where I’m supposed to be.
5) What advice would you give to a prospective transfer student?
-
To make the best out of it! NJIT offers great opportunities! You just have to go find them. I love NJIT, and I am so glad I picked it for my higher education.
6) What is a major difference between NJIT and the previous school you transferred from?
-
The classes were much larger here at NJIT, and the professors were not always available. Since they cover many more sections, but they can rely on the TA to help out students, which in some cases made it easier for us to connect with TA.
7) What are the three things you like best about NJIT?
-
Campus – I love that all the buildings are within walking distance.
-
Friendliness – I love how friendly everyone was and the friendships you can make here.
-
Lab experiences – I love that students are able to get experience from labs and do their own research!
