To be eligible for summer aid, you must meet the following criteria:
Be registered for summer courses and be matriculated at NJIT; Meet the minimum standards for financial aid Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), which is determined after Spring Semester grades are posted; Submit completed online application to SFAS by May 13 for Summer Session I and by June 24 for Summer Session II; If you are taking courses at another institution, you must obtain a consortium agreement from NJIT to be completed by the other institution’s financial aid office and returned to NJIT.
Federal Pell Grant Eligible Recipients (undergraduates only meeting criteria below):
If you did not use 100% of your Pell Grant during the Fall or Spring semesters, you may be eligible for summer Pell (1-credit minimum enrollment). If 100% of Pell was used during the 2023-2024 academic year, you may qualify for “Year-Round Pell” where you must be enrolled for 6 credits (for example, 3 credits in Summer I and 3 in Summer II). Note: The summer Pell grant may not cover all of the bill; other arrangements must be made to pay the rest of the bill. Meet Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards (initial Summer Pell award will be estimated pending SAP assessment at the end of the Spring semester; if not passing SAP, Pell will be rescinded until a successful SAP appeal is processed).
Summer New Jersey Tuition Aid Grants (undergraduates only meeting criteria below):
New Jersey residents who have filed the 2023-2024 FAFSA or NJ Alternative application completed by the state deadline Received NJ TAG award during the Fall 2023 and/or Spring 2024 term Summer enrollment of at least 6 credits (for summer this can be 3 credits in the full, first, or middle session and 3 credits in the second session) Be enrolled in courses that are in the same undergraduate program at the same institution at which you were enrolled during the fall or spring of the 2023-2024 academic year Be enrolled in courses that may be credited towards graduation or used to fulfill your academic major requirements Meet NJIT’s requirements for Satisfactory Academic Progress (annual assessment occurs after Spring grades are posted)
NJIT Summer Grant (undergraduates only):
NJIT has limited summer grant funding to assist students in financing the cost of the Summer session. Funds will be awarded based on financial need, the number of applicants, and available funding.
Loans (undergraduate and graduate students):
You must enroll for at least 6 credits to be eligible for loan funds. Credits taken during any summer terms are combined to determine your level of enrollment; If you received loan funds during the academic year, Summer eligibility is limited to the grade-level maximum minus the amount already received. For example, if the grade-level maximum is $5500, and you received $3500 for the academic year, your maximum summer eligibility is $2000. If you received $5500 during the academic year, you are not eligible for a Summer loan; Federal Direct Parent PLUS (Parent loans), Federal Direct Graduate PLUS (Graduate students) and private loans are also available in Summer; Loan requests must be submitted 4 weeks before your last day of classes. If you are requesting a federal loan, enter the amount of the loan. If you do not need a loan, enter 0 and then submit the application.
