Withdrawing from a course for F1 Students
Information for F1 International students about withdrawing from coursework during the semester.
These instructions are for international students only.
**This information is for F-1 and J-1 International students enrolled at NJIT ONLY.**
If you are a US Citizen, you must contact the Office of the Registrar for withdrawal information.

The OGI will NOT approve any requests that will drop any student below full time enrollment without prior approval for a reduced course load.

Withdrawal requests should be submitted to the OGI no later than 1 week prior to the withdrawal date for the semester, to allow the OGI sufficient time to review and process your request.
- The OGI may take up to 7 business days to process your request. All requests are processed as quickly as possible, in the order they are received
Regardless if you are in the U.S. or abroad, all students must follow these steps if you would like to withdraw from a class during the semester:
Undergraduate and Master’s F1 International students
1. Verify with your academic department that withdrawing from the course(s) will not be detrimental to your academic standing or cause a delay in your progression toward graduation. You must remain enrolled for 12 credits (undergraduate) and 9 credits (graduate) at all times.
2. If the academic advisor approves the withdrawal request, you must use the online Withdrawal Request Form to express your intention to withdraw from the course(s). Please make sure to type the COMPLETE course number(s) and section(s), including the 5-digit CRN number(s) that you wish to withdraw. For example: MATH332-002 CRN: 13604
Doctoral F1 International students
1. Verify with your academic department and Graduate Studies Office that withdrawing from the course(s) will not be detrimental to your academic standing, TA or RA assignments, or cause a delay in your progression toward graduation.
2. If the academic department and Graduate Studies Office approve the withdrawal request, you must use the online Withdrawal Request Form to express your intention to withdraw from the course(s). Please make sure to type the COMPLETE course number(s) and section(s), including the 5-digit CRN number(s) that you wish to withdraw. For example: MATH332-002 CRN: 13604
If the request is approved, the OGI will email the Registrar and copy you to confirm that you can withdraw from the class. The Registrar will process your withdrawal.
The OGI cannot withdraw any student from any course. All inquiries about this, following approval by the OGI (via the approval email), must be directed to the Office of the Registrar.
We kindly ask you to only use the Withdrawal Request Form for this request. We cannot process requests submitted by email.
