Programs and Services
The Office of Student Life hosts a variety of yearly events and traditions.
Welcome Week (Fall & Spring)
At the start of each semester, Student Life hosts Welcome Weeks, which includes the Student Involvement Fairs where students can come meet other students from all of the student organizations of NJIT. We also offer several fun events during the first week to help new students meet each other and returning students reconnect with the NJIT community. Some of these events have included Welcome Back Snacks, Terrace Party, Crafts and Games, Trivia Night, and Movie Night.
Student Leadership Workshops & Conferences
Each semester, Student Life offers student leadership workshops and full-day conferences to train student organization leaders, invite interesting speakers to NJIT, introduce new leadership topics, and help students connect and network with each other, speakers, and alumni.
Annually, we also host the Highlander Awards to recognize excellence in service, community engagement and leadership. View our complete list of Awards - Highlander Awards - 2019 - Award Descriptions.pdf.
Constitution Day Celebration
We celebrate Constitution Day on or near September 17 to give students an opportunity to discuss the history and the current political climate. Events vary from year to year.
Cultural and Diversity Celebrations
Student Life helps the NJIT community celebrate different cultures through month-long celebrations, such as Hispanic Heritage Month, Black Heritage Month, and Women's History Month. Additionally, opportunities are offered to engage in dialogue and advocacy efforts through events events such as National Coming Out Day and Transgender Day of Remembrance.
Homecoming takes place in October each year. During Homecoming, the NJIT community celebrates everything NJIT with hundreds of students, families, faculty, staff, and alumni in attendance for a variety of athletic, academic, and social events. For more information, visit the Homecoming Website to view the most recent schedule.
National Hazing Prevention Week
During National Hazing Prevention Week, Student Life works with the fraternities and sororities to promote a campaign called "These Hands Don't Haze" and brings a noteable speaker to campus to educate students about contributing positively to our community.
Winter Celebration
At the annual Winter Celebration, Student Life brings the NJIT community together to celebrate the winter holiday season and cultural observances. This festive celebration has speakers, food, student performances, winter crafting, card making, games, photo ops, and more!
Student Appreciation Week
Annually each February, departments from all over campus host a multitude of events, giveaways, and raffles to show our appreciation for NJIT's amazing student body.
De-Stress Events
At the end of each semester, Student Life hosts de-stress events for students during finals, such as Stress Busters and Give Me a Break.. with Student Life. These events are designed to be a quick break from studying to help students recharge.
