Writing Center FAQ
NJIT students, faculty, and staff can meet with a writing center consultant either in person or online.
Sign up via Navigate for an in-person or online appointment. Walk-ins may be available for in-person appointments ONLY, but there is no guarantee.
If you choose to meet online, be ready to share your document via Google Docs with the Writing Consultant you are working with. Send an invitation to edit. You may also share a Word document by emailing the consultant.
- Think about what you want to accomplish during the session, including specific goals
- Be on time for your session
- Bring the prompt and any instructions from your professor when you are working on a class assignment
The Writing Center is in CKB G17.
Please check our schedule via NAVIGATE, which you can find via NJIT Pipeline, or directly at https://njit.campus.eab.com
No, our services are absolutely free.
Either! Many students come in on their own. Some professors may require everyone in the class to visit; others may refer you specifically.
Yes. We have ongoing appointments if you want to work with the same consultant at the same time each week. If you can’t make it that week, please cancel at least 24 hours in advance, so that another student can get the slot.
- Let us know as soon as you can, so that another student can have your appointment.
- You can cancel your own appointment online via Navigate; if you neglect to do so, it is considered a no-show.
- Two no-shows means you will not be able to schedule an appointment online for the remainder of the semester.
Absolutely not. We can also help with papers and lab reports in your science and engineering classes, business or art and design classes, and any level Humanities or History class (including Technical Writing and your Senior Seminars). We work with graduate students on dissertations and academic publications. We can also consult with faculty and staff on assignments and other projects.
We can review your paper with you and help you to focus on clarity of argument and language, organization, and yes, grammar. We can’t and don’t just correct your paper for you – we work with you on these issues.
Not at all! Brainstorming ideas, working with half-written drafts, and revisions are all useful times to come in.
