All construction work, renovation or space remodeling with a budget of $10,000 - $100,000 is defined by the CPD&C Department as small project. CPD&C is responsible for the performance and/or oversight of any such work on campus.
The projects can consist of facility modifications, including change of use, renovations, or system upgrades. They are generally completed by utilizing multiple trades through NJIT’s list of prequalified outside contractors.
Small projects such as new office furniture, finish upgrades, minor modifications to the space, typically take less than 6 months to complete. Larger projects such as office suite renovations, change of use/occupancy, structural changes to the building, or new equipment installations can take 6 - 12 months to complete. Larger projects will require the involvement of an architect/engineer, will be bid using NJIT’s prequalified list of general contractors, and will require a permit from the City of Newark.
Some examples of small construction projects and services are:
Installation of new finishes such as flooring, paint, ceilings, etc.
Relocation of walls, doors, windows, etc.
Upgrade of electrical, heating, cooling, plumbing systems
Upgrade of telecommunications and audiovisual systems or equipment
Minor work associated with lab, classroom, or office improvements
Room or space signage
