Information for Parents
Career Development Services (CDS) is here to help and support your child with his/her career goals. We provide resources for the planning and preparation required to help students succeed on their career paths. It is important to encourage your child to take advantage of our services and programs starting from their first year at NJIT. We look forward to assisting your student on the road to career fulfillment.
Career Advising
Each student is assigned a career advisor based upon his/her major. Meeting with a career advisor helps students make informed career choices and better decisions; become more aware of interests, skills, values, and personality in relationship to career; and improve professional skills. Students can make an appointment with their career advisor by accessing their account on Handshake. Career advising is available to all undergraduate and graduate students and alumni.
Workshops
CDS hosts workshops and seminars each semester on a wide range of topics including Resume Writing, Job Search Strategies, Interviewing, and Business Etiquette. Employers frequently visit the campus for Information Sessions, Employer Panels, Resume Review, and Practice Interviews.
Experiential Education
Students who graduate with major-related work experience typically receive more employment interviews and offers than those who graduate with no major-related work experience at all.
Job Listings
Employers post many types of positions that are listed for students to view and apply for. They include full-time, part-time, cooperative education, and general internship positions through our online job board, Handshake.
Career Fairs
CDS hosts two career fairs each academic year to provide students with opportunities to meet with employers for full-time, part-time, co-op, internship, and summer jobs. Over 200 quality companies attend each fair. View the list of participating employers of our upcoming career fair or the most recent one.
On-Campus Interviewing
On-Campus Interviewing (OCI) provides your child with the opportunity to meet one-to-one with hiring employers on campus. During the Fall and Spring semesters, company representatives are on-campus interviewing for positions. There is a simple process that your student must complete before participating in this program. CDS encourages each student to begin this process early.
