NJIT and NJ Transit have partnered to offer full-time students the opportunity to purchase bus, rail or light rail monthly pass at 25% off the regular monthly pass price.
NJ Transit Student Pass
Any student who wishes to sign up for the NJ Transit Student Pass program will need to first be registered for classes and then sign-up through their pipeline account. For more information on this program, head to the NJ Transit Website for details and special offers.
Each full-time student (12 credits and above) is eligible to receive one discounted monthly pass per month. Passes are non-transferable.
Why Mobile Student Monthly?
Mobile passes offer the convenience of purchasing and displaying your student monthly pass on your mobile device. No need to pre-pay or wait for a paper ticket in the mail. Buy at your leisure.

Steps to get Student Pass for September:
Wait for the start date for buying tickets, which is the 19th of the month before you are buying tickets for at 5:00pm.
For example - if you are buying for September, you will need to wait until August 19th in order to be able to buy your pass.
Log-in to Pipeline. Then click link for "Student NJ Transit Pass"
Click the green button on the page that says “Sign up for your NJ Transit Mobile Student Monthly Passes Today!”
Fill out form with NJIT EMAIL info and submit – DO NOT use your personal email. Please wait for your verification email.
After receiving your verification email, download the NJ Transit app and log in using your NJIT email.
Already use the NJ Transit application? If it is attached to a personal email, delete the app and re-install it on your phone before signing in with your NJIT email & password you created
Once you are in, you should be able to see the “Student” option when you go to purchase tickets.
Existing Mobile Student Users:
If you are an existing Mobile Student Monthly customer, you need to reactivate your account at the start of each semester starting August 19th @5:00 p.m.
Complete the following steps:
1. Log-in to Pipeline. Then click link for "NJ Transit Student Pass"
2. Click the BLUE button on the page to reactivate your account.
3. Log-in to NJ Transit app and log in using your NJIT email.
4. Once you are in, you should be able to see the “Student” option when you go to purchase tickets.
5. Passes may be purchased from the 19th of the preceding month through the 10th of the month that the pass is valid.
6. On the 1st of the month your student pass will display in the app
