Paul V. Profeta Foundation, Inc. Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fellowship
July 2024
“NJIT has not only provided a solid academic foundation but has also instilled in me a commitment to service and innovation. As a student and researcher, I am dedicated to using my skills to bring transformative health solutions to those in need, fulfilling my role as an agent of change in our community.” - Aliza Mujahid ’25
Our July Scholar of the Month is Aliza Mujahid ’25, an Albert Dorman Honors College Scholar and one of only two students selected this year for the Paul V. Profeta Foundation, Inc. Innovation and Entrepreneurship Fellowship. As a biomedical engineering major focusing on bioinstrumentation, Aliza has leveraged her studies to conduct a series of breakthrough research projects in neural prosthetics and mechanobiology. Undoubtedly, her most impressive innovation is her patent-pending skin grafting technology, DermaMech. Supported by grants from the National Science Foundation’s Innovation-Corps Program, this revolutionary technology aims to advance the healthcare industry’s treatment of skin wounds.
Aliza’s leadership is further exemplified by her longstanding involvement in the NJIT community. On campus, she serves as President of the Entrepreneurship Society, assists fellow students as a member of the Residence Hall Association, and has volunteered as a tutor with the Math Tutoring Center. Additionally, she is a member of the Chemistry Honor Society, is a representative on NJIT’s Student Affairs Committee, and participates in the university’s student chapter of the National Academy of Inventors.
This summer, Aliza is conducting customer discovery to eventually commercialize DermaMech and is participating in NJIT’s Pitch Perfect Bootcamp, a program designed to sharpen students’ entrepreneurial and business communication skills.
