Incomplete Grade Request
Incomplete Grade Request
Per NJIT Academic Policies and Procedures, an incomplete grade is given in rare instances to students who would usually have completed the coursework but could not do so because of extraordinary circumstances (e.g., bereavement, medical concerns, military activity, legal obligations, or University-sanctioned Travel). Students seeking an incomplete grade are expected to be current in their coursework and well-performing.
Coursework must be completed during the next regular semester (Fall/Spring) if approved by the course instructor(s). If this grade is not removed before final grades are due at the end of the next regular semester, an F will be issued.
Verifiable documentation in support of a request is required. Incomplete grades will not be issued due to repeated and unexplained absences, lack of class engagement, or unsatisfactory and failing grades. Requests for incomplete grades must be submitted before final grades are posted.
Please note that the Office of the Dean of Students (DOS) only collects and verifies supporting documentation. Approval and administration are at the discretion of the course instructor(s) or based on their department’s policy. Therefore, students must follow up with the instructor directly for approval. Students approved should complete a detailed plan and timeline for submitting the outstanding coursework with their instructor(s).
PhD students must contact the Office of Graduate Studies before submitting a request, as some limitations apply.
