Health Insurance Requirements
Health Insurance is mandatory for all registered exchange students, including dependents, as a condition of the visa category (J) and enrollment. Not carrying insurance that meets the minimum requirements set by Department of State is a violation of your status and can result in termination of your SEVIS record. In addition, the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) requires verification of all required immunizations prior to arrival on campus.
NJIT requires that international students have adequate medical and accident insurance coverage at all times.
1. Mandatory student health insurance will be charged for all exchange students.
2. The mandatory student health insurance charge will include one week early arrival insurance for all new incoming exchange students to cover the International Student Orientation program.
3. NJIT’s health insurance student coverage meets the minimum requirements set by the Department of State:
- Medical benefits of at least $100,000 per accident or illness
- Repatriation of remains in the amount of $25,000
- Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of exchange visitors to his or her home country in the amount of $50,000
- Deductibles not to exceed $500 per accident or illness
All exchange students will be charged for the student health insurance coverage in the fall and spring semesters. You do not need to purchase any additional insurance coverage prior to attending NJIT.
