The Alpha Sigma Tau Sorority was founded on November 4, 1899, at what was then Michigan State Normal College, a teachers college in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Back then, the sorority movement was just starting to sweep the country. Our Founders Helene M. Rice, Mayene Tracy, Adriance Rice, Eva O’Keefe, May Gephart, Mabel Chase, Ruth Dutcher, and Harriet Marx saw an opportunity for women to engage and grow together as Sisters. Their legacy – Alpha Chapter – is still thriving at what is now known as Eastern Michigan University.
From our beginnings in 1899 to today, we are proud to have continually promoted the ethical, cultural, social, and professional development of our members. The Sorority invests in women by instilling the skills necessary to navigate life, and inspires members to enrich their own lives and the lives of others. Like our Founders, we strive to empower women to excel in every way.
Alpha Sigma Tau’s National Philanthropy is the Women’s Wellness Initiative. This far-reaching philanthropy empowers members to impact women's wellness in their communities through fundraising and service projects. The Beta Upsilon chapter is a strong supporter of Newark G.A.L.S, an organization dedicated to enhancing the productivity and accomplishments of girls and young women from the city of Newark. The mission of Newark G.A.L.S is to empower girls and young women from the city of Newark to reach their maximum potential by exposing them to practical leadership and life skills.

Delta Phi Epsilon is a group of dynamic women living by our motto “esse quam videri”, meaning “to be rather than to seem to be”. Everyday these women strive to be true to themselves and those around them as we follow in our Founder’s footsteps and cultivate well-rounded and balanced women by utilizing the five S’s of personal growth and development: Sisterhood, Scholarship, Service, Social, and Self. The Beta Eta Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon follows our founding non-sectarian beliefs as well as our mission to provide a sisterhood experience rich in tradition, innovation, and opportunities for growth.

Sigma Psi Kappa is NJIT's only local social sorority founded and based at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in Newark, NJ. We have been on campus since 1992 and have since grown tremendously to the organization you see today. We are fully recognized by the University and currently have maintained this status since 1993.
Our sisterhood is built upon the four main pillars of Greek Life: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Friendship. We also follow another set of principles that guide us to be better sisters and above all, become better people.
The philanthropies Sigma Psi Kappa are known for are: the American Heart Association, whom we hold semesterly Blood Drives for on-campus, our second philanthropy that we dedicate our time to is the Kaleidoscope of Hope, a New Jersey-based organization who raise awareness of Ovarian Cancer.
Aside from our hard work at school and for the community, we are a social organization that prides ourselves on our motto "Sisterhood by Friendship." We love spending time with each other, whether this is on exciting out of state road trips or hanging out on a sister’s couch with a bag of popcorn. Sigma Psi Kappa is full of unique, exciting, and different sisters from across the globe who found it each other through sisterhood.
