Any student currently enrolled at NJIT is welcome!
Peer Wellness Coaching is students supporting students in their optimal well-being. Peer Wellness Coaches will empower you to make your own decisions, set your own goals, and take action to experience a satisfying life balance. Services are provided by specially trained student coaches under the supervision of NJIT’s Campus Health and Wellness Services.
Peer Wellness Coaching is not counseling, health services, or advising. If you need or want these services, a coach can connect you to them.
Anything! Coaches talk with fellow students about all dimensions of their well-being including physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, occupational, financial, and environmental wellness. Some examples of what students have found helpful to discuss in coaching are self-care, relationships, campus and community involvement, academics, career, motivation, and confidence. Again though, you can discuss anything with a Peer Wellness Coach!
It is important to understand that conversations with your Peer Wellness Coach are private. Your Peer Wellness Coach will not share what you discuss with other people, including other students, faculty, staff, or your family, unless one or more of the following exceptions apply.
Exception 1: If your Peer Wellness Coach believes that you or someone else is in danger, then they must pass that information on to someone who can help.
Exception 2: If your Peer Wellness Coach learns of any actions that may be in violation of Title IX, then they are required to report this information to the appropriate professionals on campus.
Exception 3: If your Peer Wellness Coach learns of a violation of the NJIT Student Conduct Code, then it is subject to reporting.
Exception 4: If your Peer Wellness Coach is legally mandated to share information, then they will have to comply.
Exception 5: Your Peer Wellness Coach works as part of a team of coaches overseen by NJIT’s C-CAPS and Campus Health and Wellness Services and may consult with them to ensure that you are given the best possible service. As part of this, your Peer Wellness Coach may have a teammate observe or record your meetings for training and development purposes. If your meeting is selected for observation or recording, your Peer Wellness Coach will remind you of this privacy statement and you will have the option to decline.
Exception 6: If you participate in team coaching, all participants agree to maintain the privacy of other students’ information. Violation of this agreement could result in dismissal from team coaching; however, the Peer Wellness Coaches cannot guarantee non-disclosure of your information by other students.
