For Amazon purchases, what mail-to address should I choose in the eProcurement system?
As of 2/15/2023, purchasing recommends choosing: (MAIL) - 70 Summit Street, Cullimore Hall in the ship to address field and placing your name, building, room# in the attention box.
Will my mail be processed the same day it is picked up?
All outgoing Mail, with the exception of Bulk Mail, will be processed and delivered to the post office the same day it is picked up on our regularly scheduled mail runs. Any mail brought to the mailroom must arrive by 3:15 p.m. for same day processing.
How should I prepare my outgoing mail for pickup?
Interoffice mail, domestic mail, international mail must be separated. Use rubber bands to bundle groups and post it notes to identify the bundles. If you are leaving the envelopes open please piggyback the flaps on top of each other.
Can I ship out packages in the mailroom?
Yes, we can ship out most packages and documents that are NJIT business related both domestically and internationally. The shipping cost will be charge back to your department on a monthly basis. We ship packages via UPS and USPS at discounted rates. The Mailroom staff can assist with shipping your packages.
Can I ship out personal packages through the mailroom?
Depending on volume and availability of staff, if you have a prepaid shipping label we will make sure your package is sent out with your courier drivers (UPS, USPS, and FEDEX). Please note the NJIT Mailroom cannot be held liable for lost personal packages or damage that occurs during shipping. We may also decline handling your package for any reason.
Can I have personal items shipped or mailed to me at work?
Personal items should NOT be shipped (or mailed) to work. This slows the delivery time of work related packages and mail. We simply cannot handle the added volume. Also note that any item shipped or mailed to an NJIT address may be opened by NJIT.
What time will mail and packages be delivered to my department?
Generally mail and packages are delivered between nine AM and one PM. Packages that are delivered to the mailroom after the mail runs begin are delivered that same afternoon or the next morning.
Are you open on weekends or Holidays?
We are closed for business on weekends and all University observed holidays. During the holiday break the staff usually will work one day between Christmas Day and New Year's Day to receive and sort accumulated mail and UPS, FedEx and FedEx Ground packages.
Does the mailroom sell stamps?
No, but stamps can be bought online at USPS.com.
I'm purchasing a large piece of equipment for my department, are there any special requirements?
Yes, you should work out delivery details with your vendor. Some shipments may required special equipment to make the delivery. If you need assistance please call the mailroom manager at (973) 596-3188.

What is the latest I can have mail from my department brought to the mailroom so that it goes out to the post office the same day?
You can bring mail to the mailroom up until 3:15 PM and have it go out the same day. Mail received after 3:15 PM will go out the next business day. Note that larger quantities of outgoing mail will take longer to apply the postage. As such, please bring that mail to the mailroom well before the 3:15 PM deadline.
