Your New Student Checklist!
As an incoming student, you’ve got a lot to do to prepare for the start of the semester. Your New Student Checklist will help you stay organized and ensure you complete all necessary tasks before, during, and after your New Student Orientation programming.

Your first step as an incoming NJIT student is obtaining your University Computing ID (UCID). In order to claim your UCID, please visit myucid.njit.edu. You may need to wait 24 hours after you receive your admissions decision to create your UCID. If you experience any issues with the creation of your UCID, please contact the NJIT Help Desk at 973-596-2900.
- Go to my.njit.edu. This is your online student portal for viewing financial aid, course registration, bills and other important services.
- Set up your NJIT email account at webmail.njit.edu, you will log in with your UCID. Your NJIT email address will be the official method of communication for all correspondence from the university.
If you have not done so already, submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to list NJIT’s federal school code (002621). Financial aid awards are emailed to students, who have filed FAFSA, to their NJIT email account. If your financial aid award gets updated (due to change in residency, academic credentials, etc.), a new financial aid packet will be accessible on your Highlander Pipeline - my.njit.edu.

For Advanced Placement (AP) credits
- For upcoming exams, select NJIT (school code 2513) to receive all of your electronic AP scores.
- For previous exams, go to CollegeBoard to send your AP score report to NJIT
- Go to the International Baccalaureate website to send your IB grades to NJIT.
- College-level courses taken while in high school require submission of an official transcript(s) from the Registrar’s Office of the university/college(s) that the course was through. Once transfer credits have been processed, you will receive a Transfer Credit Evaluation (TCE) to your NJIT email.
You must claim your UCID at least 48 hours prior to taking the placement assessment if you have not already done so.

Register and attend for your mandatory on-campus New Student Orientation on January 14th beginning at 9:30 a.m. Please register for the event here.

You will receive an email from mobilecredential@njit.edu regarding your NJIT ID Card in mid-December. You will be able to pick up your ID card beginning in January. Make sure you follow the instructions to ensure your ID card processes correctly!
If you believe that your initial placement test scores are not representative of your mathematical capabilities and level, you may request a one-time retake of the math placement test that you can schedule at least 2 weeks after your first placement test date.

You will be notified when your course schedule is viewable on your Highlander Pipeline – my.njit.edu. As an incoming first-year student, NJIT develops your schedule for you based on your major, your placement testing results, and any AP/IB or transfer credits you may have. For questions about your schedule, please use the following:
- If you are in the Spring Opportunity Program (SOP), contact oaa_sop@njit.edu
- If you are not in the SOP program, contact orientation@njit.edu
If you are living on campus, we recommend you reach out to your roommate(s) before moving in. This will allow you to get to know each other and begin to plan for the semester ahead.

You will be able to obtain a permit to park on campus once you receive your spring-semester course schedule. You can apply for a parking permit by registering your vehicle through the below here (click the "Get Permits" button, and select the "NJIT Login" button).
All students are required to have health insurance. If you are already insured with a policy that meets specific requirements, you can request to waive NJIT's health insurance.

Financial aid awards are sent to all students who have filed the FAFSA or New Jersey Alternative Application. Students must review and accept their awards through their Highlander Pipeline account - my.njit.edu.
The Campus-Wide Notification System (CWNS) allows NJIT to communicate important information on an expedited basis with students, faculty, and staff via text message, phone, and email. Students can sign up for these alerts on their Highlander Pipeline account.
All invoices are available to you on your Student Payment Portal via your Highlander Pipeline account - my.njit.edu. Statement notifications are sent to your NJIT email address and are always due the Wednesday before the first day of classes.
For a list of the accepted payment methods, use this link. Questions about how to pay your tuition bill should be referred to the Office of the Bursar at bursar@njit.edu.
Once you have your schedule, find and purchase your course textbooks via the online NJIT Bookstore. Please note that your schedule is subject to change until the start of the semester, so we recommend waiting to make any purchases until after you meet with your professors during the first week of classes.

The Involvement Fair occurs at the beginning of the semester to help connect you to the student organizations available on NJIT's campus. The Spring Involvement Fair date is January 22nd, 2025!
