A list of common questions about Family Orientation.
The choice of whether or not to attend Family Orientation depends on each family.
A family member of incoming first-year students is strongly encouraged to attend. This is one of the first steps in showing support for your student.
You will have a chance to gain your own introduction to campus life.
Additionally, you will have an opportunity to meet key campus staff members who support first-year students, and become familiar with student services and facilities, food-service plans, financial aid, career planning, and student activities.
Families may choose which sessions they wish to attend, however, students are required to attend the entire day's program.
Yes, there are area hotels where reservations can be made. A list of nearby hotels can be found here.
Yes, Financial Aid Services will provide a general workshop which will address questions and concerns. You may also visit them at the FAS counter at the Student Service Mall located at the side of the Summit Street parking deck. Please note, due to FERPA, your student must be present in order to discuss your student's record.
During Orientation, the academic advisors are involved in academic program overview sessions for the students attending New Student Orientations. Families will not be permitted to attend these sessions as this is an important first step for your student's academic independence.
Parents and students are permitted to park in the NJIT Parking Deck on 154 Summit Street. There is no charge, and no permit is needed.
Family sessions will be separate as presentations will focus your new role as a family member of an NJIT college student.
Families are not encouraged to bring children as they can be a distraction to the program. Please be advised that there are no babysitting accommodations.
