Financial Aid
Financial Aid includes Federal and State (if you are a New Jersey resident) grants, loans and scholarships. The best way to know what financial aid you may receive is by filing a FAFSA every year.
Things To Know
Filing a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) every year is necessary to know what Federal aid you may receive. You are not required to accept all that is offered so be sure to fill out the FAFSA to make an informed decision.
NJIT FAFSA code is 002621
If you are a New Jersey resident, after filing the FAFSA you will also need to check your New Jersey financial aid eligibility through HESAA (New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority). Be sure to check HESAA a few days after filing the FAFSA to make sure the automatic loading of your information is correct and to check the HESAA to-do list for any additional information or documents.

SAP (Satisfactory Academic Progress) Appeals are required to see if you can still receive financial aid if you have been notified you failed SAP. Complete the form immediately with the support of your academic advisor to see if your aid will be reinstated.
Is your financial aid package based on a different financial situation than you currently have? You may be eligible for an increase to your financial aid package but will need to submit an Income Reduction Appeal, along with the necessary documents. You may want to first speak with the Office of Financial Aid to find out if you are already at the maximum amount for grants and federal loans before submitting the Appeal.
Check your Financial Aid section of the Highlander Portal for important notifications regularly. The government randomly selects people to submit additional information (called Verification). Without the necessary submissions, aid cannot be used.
