The TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science) competition is a one-day, two-part academic exam coordinated by the Technology Student Association (TSA).
Middle and high school students build their problem-solving skills across several academic areas and learn to work cooperatively as group members during the competition. The experience is designed to introduce students to an “engineering team” work environment.
Students compete for local, state and national awards and recognition. The TSA recognizes the Top 10 national teams in each division; plus each student participating in a nationally ranked team receives a Certificate of Achievement.
Competitions consist of objective questions and problems in math, physics, chemistry, biology, computers and English. The team with the highest overall score in each division wins the competition and a chance to have their national exam judged among schools from all over the United States. The event is sponsored by NJIT in cooperation with the TSA, which oversees similar events in 32 states nationwide.
Due to the ongoing pandemic and the continuing uncertainty surrounding in-person instruction, the decision has been made for the 2022 TEAMS state level competitions to take place locally at each team’s home school. This year’s format also eliminates the need for student travel.
Fees to Participate
Registrants are charged a $200 fee per team which must be sent to the TSA.
