Our Mission
The mission of sustainability initiatives at NJIT is to help guide our community become more sustainable and drive pathway towards carbon neutrality. These initiatives are developed in order to create a culture of faculty, staff and students who are socially, economically and environmentally responsible.
Our Vision
We strive to integrate sustainability into the core mission of the university through teaching, research, service. We are committed to projects that make efficient use of our resources in order to create a more sustainable campus and community.
Who We Are
Prabhakar Shrestha |
Dr. Shrestha joined NJIT as the Assistant Director of Sustainability in February 2022. Dr. Shrestha is leading NJIT's effort to be carbon neutral while also ensuring that sustainability is a norm at the university. He is responsible for the development, coordination, and implementation of sustainability programs and policies at NJIT. In his free time, Dr. Shrestha enjoys spending time with his family exploring NJ and the tri-state area. He is an avid pickleball player. |
Sadia Mohiuddin

Sadia is a senior undergrad majoring in biology and minoring in journalism. She’s the writer, website manager, and data collector for the Office of Sustainability, while also serving as the Environmental Justice Leader of NJIT Green, a position through which she hopes to integrate student perspectives to improve university sustainability efforts. Sadia is excited to collaborate with students, faculty, and staff to promote sustainability practices. She has worked on STARS and written the Press Release for the 2023 STARS Report. |
Mikaila Ullal |
Mikaila is a Sustainability Specialist Intern for the Office of Sustainability. She is a 4th year Bachelors of Architecture student at the Hillier College of Architecture and Design. As an active member on campus, Mikaila is the President of NJIT Green, as well as an Event Coordinator for the National Organization of Minority Architecture Students. She is passionate about implementing sustainable culture around campus and in Newark by educating the community through NJIT Green and the Office of Sustainability. She designed the NJIT Recycling Guide and is working on improving our recycling rates by making recycling bins more widely accessible on campus. |
Shreya Agrawal

Shreya Agrawal, a student in the Master of Science in Architecture program, has a passion for sustainable design that extends beyond the academic realm. As an active member of the Office of Sustainability at NJIT, she plays a pivotal role in shaping the institution's Climate Action Plan. Her responsibilities include not only contributing to the development of the plan but also spearheading initiatives to raise awareness and foster a culture of sustainability throughout the campus. With a keen interest in sustainable design, Shreya is committed to making a positive impact on the environment and promoting a greener future for her academic community. |
Nergis Ayaz |
Nergis is a fourth year undergrad pursuing a Bachelors of Architecture at the Hillier College of Architecture and Design. She is inspired by her team’s passion for sustainability and is motivated to raise student engagement and awareness about practicing a sustainable lifestyle. Her current role at the Office of Sustainability consists of supporting ways to better NJIT’s knowledge and action in sustainability through operating the office’s official Instagram page (@njitsustain). |
