Transfer students must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5 (a higher GPA required for some majors). Additionally, transfer students should have completed at least 15 semester hours/credits including the following:
- English composition
- Mathematics (pre-calculus is required for most majors)
- Science (chemistry and/or physics required for some majors)
Transfer students who do not receive transfer credit for required first year courses in English (ENGL 101) and mathematics (Pre-Calculus or Calculus) are required to take a placement test. The results will be used to determine your first semester course in English and/or math. To prepare for the math placement test, you can review sample and practice questions. Placement test details can be viewed online. For more information and to register for a placement test, please call the Center for Student Success Placement Testing Office at (973) 596-8389.

Your admissions letter includes a website link to the Advising & Registration page. Please visit the webpage to sign-up for academic advisement. The advisor you meet with will review your transfer credit evaluation, remove your advisor hold and help you identify classes to register for that will count towards your major and graduation requirements.
There is no maximum number of credits a student can transfer into NJIT. However, students must earn at least 33 credits in the upper-division courses approved by the department of their major study to be eligible for graduation.

After you have met with your academic department advisor to discuss your course schedule for the upcoming semester and they remove your academic advisor hold, then you can register for classes online via Highlander Pipeline. Transfer applicants who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents are eligible to apply for financial aid in the form of grants, loans, and part-time employment. Financial aid is awarded on the basis of need, but is dependent upon availability of funds. To apply for financial assistance (scholarship, grant, loan or work study), students must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Assistance (FAFSA).

Scholarship information can be found on NJIT’s Financial Aid website. The typical criteria for scholarships are: minimum GPA of 2.5 and registered as a full time student (taking at least 12 Credits). Tip: Before you purchase and/or unwrap new books, please double-check with your professor that the texts will be needed/used for the class.
