Policies, Standards, and Guidelines Regarding Tools

NJIT Acceptable and Responsible Use Policy

This policy outlines the standards for acceptable and responsible use of NJIT’s information assets and resources. It emphasizes the importance of legal, ethical, and secure usage by all members of the NJIT community, including students, faculty, staff, and affiliates. The policy details the definitions of key terms such as Data, University Data, User, and Data User, and sets expectations for compliance with laws and university policies. It also reserves NJIT's right to monitor and review usage and clarifies that all data created or accessed through NJIT's resources are university property. Violations of the policy may lead to disciplinary action, and the policy is subject to periodic review and updates.

Data Classification Policy

This policy at NJIT is subject to periodic review by the Enterprise Analytics Governance Committee, with input from the Data Governance Subcommittee. This process ensures that the policy remains relevant and effective. The committee may update the policy as needed, and any changes will be administered under the direction of the Office of the Provost. The policy is crucial as it governs the classification and handling of university data resources, which are either the property of or licensed to NJIT. Compliance with this policy is mandatory, and violations may lead to access denial or disciplinary action. The effective date of the policy is from the time of adoption, and it revokes any previous policies on the subject.

Minimum Security Standards

The document outlines mandatory security and data handling protocols for NJIT, including background checks for data access, secure handling of paper documents, VPN use on public Wi-Fi, role-based access control, and timely deprovisioning of accounts. Harmonize, a product of Harmonize Learning, is an online discussion platform designed to enhance student engagement in online learning environments. It creates an interactive space where students can share their work, engage in discussions, and interact with instructors and peers using various forms of media. Harmonize supports the use of audio and video recordings, allowing for more personalized and engaging discussions. It mirrors the functionality of popular social platforms, encouraging students to interact in more meaningful and authentic ways. Gradescope

Gradescope is an educational technology platform designed to streamline the administration and grading of assessments. It supports a wide range of assignment types, including problem sets, projects, worksheets, quizzes, bubble sheets, and exams, and it allows instructors to grade paper-based, digital, and code assignments in half the time. It provides detailed feedback while maintaining consistency with a flexible rubric. Gradescope also offers features such as scanning student work, sending and exporting grades, and providing detailed analytics. This helps educators save time, prevent cheating, and get a clear picture of student performance.
