There are about 400 teaching and research assistantships available in academic departments, which are funded internally or externally.
Research Assistant
Research assistants are normally PhD students who conduct research under the supervision of NJIT faculty. Fully-supported students have duties considered part-time work equivalent to up to 18 hours per week. Master's students as well may serve as Research Assistants. Continuing students receiving this award for the first time must have a CGPA of 3.5 or higher, and must maintain a CGPA of at least 3.0 to continue receiving support.
Teaching Assistant
Teaching assistants are PhD students who conduct recitations, laboratory sessions, grading, and/or other types of course support under the supervision of faculty. These duties are considered part-time work equivalent to up to 18 hours per week. Continuing students receiving this award for the first time must have a CGPA of 3.5 or higher, and must maintain a CGPA of at least 3.0 to continue receiving support.
Grader
A grader (PhD or Master's student) is appointed for part-time service and grades course work under the direction and supervision of faculty. Graders may be hired by an academic department on an hourly basis.
