UPS Packages
The NJIT mailroom handles all incoming and outgoing UPS (United Parcel Service) shipments.
Incoming UPS packages are received daily at the NJIT Mailroom. Upon receipt, mailroom staff will sign for the packages on the UPS driver's scanning system. This signature information will be the information that you see on your UPS.com tracking screen. On the same day (or the next day for late receipts), mailroom staff will deliver the packages to the department. Upon delivery, the department will need to sign for the package on the NJIT package tracking system. This information will NOT display on your UPS.com tracking screen. This information WILL, however, be available for query within the NJIT scanning system. Please contact the mailroom at x3191 if you need to track a package delivery within NJIT.
Outgoing packages to be sent out via UPS should be delivered to the Mailroom along with a typed address label showing the recipient's address and the sender's return address (including department and name). These packages are picked up each afternoon from the NJIT mailroom by the UPS truck at approximately 2:00 p.m. The NJIT mailroom has a UPS account that should be used by departments when sending out packages. The mailroom will pay the UPS bill for these shipments then will back charge the department's index for the shipping cost. In this way, a PO number does not need to be generated by the department. Departments are discouraged from using their own UPS accounts as the department may not get the preferred shipping rates that the mailroom account receives and the department would need to process their own UPS POs and invoices.

Note. If an outside person, vendor or company is sending a package to an NJIT department, that company should use their own UPS account. Sometimes, if an NJIT department needs to return the item to that company (perhaps if it is defective), that company will allow you to use their UPS account to return the item. In these cases, no one at NJIT gets/pays that UPS bill (the outside company does).
