NJIT Card Access
The card access system exists in several buildings on campus. All persons who need access to buildings/rooms after normal business hours must have written departmental approval.
All persons who need access to buildings after normal business hours must have written departmental approval.
Each department head or authorized personnel may send a building access request e-mail to Mike Dabrowski at mikedab@njit.edu with copy to Luis Guillen at guillen@njit.edu. Please include name, NJIT_ID#, start date and expiration date of the access.
Each department is responsible for those whom they authorize access. Please do not grant access to persons who do not need it, and please give some thought to the start and end dates that will limit the access periods.
Be sure to contact the Facility Systems Department at 973-642-7190 if there are any changes to access privileges.
Building Access Procedures
Persons who wish to enter and exit buildings “after hours” (when the buildings are locked) must obtain proper authorization from their department. If you wish to be added to an access list, please contact your department. Normal after hours times are from 10:00 PM to 6:30 AM Monday - Saturday, and all day Sunday and Holidays.
If you are authorized, and wish to enter the building after hours, please do the following:
- Do not try to enter a non-reader door (even if you have a key, an alarm will sound).
- Tap your NJIT Photo ID card or mobile credential at an entrance card reader.
- When the light turns green, the door will unlock.
- Enter the door closest to the reader only.
- Be sure the door is fully closed behind you (it should automatically lock itself).
If you are authorized, and wish to exit the building after hours, please do the following:
- Do not try to exit a non-reader door (even though it opens, an alarm will sound).
- Tap your NJIT Photo ID card or mobile credential at an exit card reader location.
- When the light turns green, the door will unlock.
- Exit the door closest to the reader only.
- Be sure the door is fully closed behind you (it should automatically lock itself).
**** Do Not Open Doors For Anyone ****
If others need to gain entry to the building, please ask them to tap in themselves. If their cards do not work, call Public Safety for access using the intercom near the door.
While we realize that it may be inconvenient to walk to the reader equipped door rather than the door that is closer to a destination, it is necessary to maintain exterior building security. Not tapping in or out will trigger the alarm.
Abuse of the card access and egress system may result in future denial of card access privileges.
If you feel uncomfortable in a building, or if you see someone or something suspicious, please call Public Safety at x 3111.
