If they offer an orientation for international/study abroad students, you are required to attend.
Remember to:
Look up your host institution’s academic calendar to see when the semester starts, when it ends, and also if you have any vacations during the semester.
Contact their study abroad office to find out if you will register for classes ahead of time or after you arrive.
Pay attention to their equivalent of drop-add and speak with an advisor there, as well as your NJIT academic advisor, if you need to make any changes to your schedule after you arrive at your destination.
You must take the equivalent of at least 12 undergraduate credits or 9 graduate credits while abroad in order to be considered a full-time NJIT student. One online class at NJIT (3 credits) can count toward your NJIT full time requirement. Your host university will have its own policy for how many classes you will need to take there in order to be full time. For example, 4 classes (12 credits) at NJIT will make you full time, but your host university might require you to take 5 classes to be full time.
Different countries have different grading systems and attendance policies. Speak to your professors at your host university if you don’t understand how you will be evaluated in class.
IMPORTANT: Arrange to have your official transcript sent to you, and submit it to Global Initiatives. Typically, transcripts are not available until several weeks after the semester ends; find out ahead of time how to request your official transcript and how it will be sent to you.
Don’t forget, you will have to register for classes for your next semester back at NJIT while you are abroad.
