Once a report related to an academic integrity or student conduct violation is reported via the online reporting form, the matter is adjudicated by the Office of the Dean of Students. Any student that is alleged to have committed a violation will receive a notice of complaint to the email address listed in the NJIT system via Maxient instructing them to attend a meeting with a Conduct Officer. During the meeting the student will have the opportunity to present information as part of the investigation. Case determinations for both student conduct and academic integrity are made utilizing the “preponderance of information” standard also known as "more likely than not".
Any student found responsible by a Conduct Officer has an additional level of process that they may pursue if they do not agree with the determination. If the case involves a separable level sanction (XF grade, removal from housing, suspension, expulsion), the student may request to have their case heard via a Student Conduct Board Hearing. The Student Conduct Board consists of a panel of students, faculty and/or staff that are trained to hear cases and make determinations of responsibility and sanctioning. For all non-separable cases, students may request an administrative appeal review by an Appeals Officer. The determination of either the conduct board or administrative appeal is the final determination in all cases.
Any student that would like to pursue filing a complaint against another member of the NJIT community should review the Reporting Options page for additional information.
